Shoftim. No magic. The 2nd pasuk chaver ov yidoni doresh - all seem like kurvah. As they connect & somewhat control events with spiritual connection. But we have an AV & we don't twist his arm. & we accept his will - even if painful - with love.
Why is one who doesn't learn like a golden ring in the nise of a swine? - if he's not learning then he doesn't have the ring! Similarly - in what way is he like a beautiful woman who uses it to stray. What beauty does he have?!
What's the continuity ti the next part if the mishnah - charus & cheirus? And whats the continuity from the last mishnah?
The mishnah is not talking about bitul Torah. Rather it's discussing another concept - eisek haTorah. The person HAS Torah - the golden ring but is not consumed by it! It doesn't INVOLVE him! So he remains a pig - the representative of gashmius - & so invested in lowly pursuits that it forgeta about the torah it has & dives into the mud!
Only haOSEK in Torah which completely involves the person, he is temporarily not megusham but enwrapped in the spirituality of the Torah - then there is no elbon. He is not a pig involved in mud but an ish asher ruach bo.
With this concept the mishnah continues to explain the equation of charus = cheirus. When the physical form of the letter is non existent, so that all that is there is the absence of gashmi in a complete bind to the tzurah with no chomer, there exists complete cheirus from yetzer. Because the person is mis'aleh uplifted. He ia no longer on the battlefield with the yetzer. He can objectively hover above it all.
Our battles are so difficult because we are megusham. Only haOsek baTorah is out of the trenches.

Now certainly the yetzer will try to attract the hovering spirit to come back down to enjoy the spoils of the battlefield, but its entirely a different fight from above. Just don't be enticed to come down.
This entire mishnah is the continuation of "umigadalto umromamto al kol hamasim".
Shoftim - medrash talpiot Hashem doesn't punish for machshava bec only He can testify about our thoughts. & He is our Father & cant punish of father's eidus. Avodah zara thoughts are punished bec the sinner does not relate as Av.
On the other hand we find that in the month of av we suffer not due to a lack of relationship but rather exactly the opposite ka'asher yiyaser ish es b'no...
However in this month of ellul we relate on a different level. Although a father may give 'petch' out of love, no one would say that a husband may hit his wife to discipline her out of love!
In ellul WE should related as a beloved spouse & then even if we need criticism from Hashem it will be with soft-spoken encouragement & not loving 'petch'.

Pinchas. Moshe asked for leader who will go in & out & bring in & out. Not just go ahead like pnei hadar kpnei hakele or like horse ahead of master but real leader - doesn't look back. Pinchos also ein morin kein. As parents have to focus on Hashem & do whats right. Not whats popular for kids or wife.

Kedoshim...Ish imo v'aviv tira'u. Whats connection. Why ISH why IMO why YIRAH not kavod. Last parsah IS kedusha - geder ervah. or ramban kadesh b'mutar. But how to develop thiS L'maleh miteva midah? Yiras am v'av yirah is lo sa'aseh - restraints from infancy is the training for self restraint - kedusha. Thats why mother & ish - gadol - not childish fear from smack. That was first step but what develops frim that is gadol fearing greatness of mother. - self restraint & kedusha. We must thank our parents for our kedusha training & we must do so for our kids.
